VERDI REQUIEM

VERDI`S REQUIEM

MUSIC FROM THE OUTER SPHERES.

Article MUSIC THROUGH THE YEARS

It seems that some strange power sat on top of Busseto in October 10 of the 1813, the day and date of Verdi`s birth. A power which led a village boy

to climb the stairs of this world`s highest musical position.

The masterpieces that Verdi created remain in the history as unique creations of great inspiration, and high quality. The characters of his operas will live

as long as music exists, as long as people thrive.

But there is a work which made the most hatefull enemies to bow in front of him. The Requiem Mass.

We do not know what was the motive power which made him compose this work. Certainly the Libera me was composed for Rossini`s death, the complete Requiem though was completed with Manzoni on mind. A man who was grown in the church, a rebellious organist , he was punished a couple of times for playing forte on the organ in Bussetto,he composed a dramatic NON RELIGIOUS work in the strict sense of the word.

Wagner used to describe the Italian music as Verdi, Donizzetti e.t.c. He wrote a letter of admiration to the master when he first heard his Requiem. Soon there were other major works to follow as Don Carlos, Falstaff, Othello, Ballo in maschera.

A great dramatist Verdi made us hear the glorious trumpets sounding TUBA MIRUM from the four corners of the world ,calling dead to rise and stand in front of their Creator in a realistic way more human and different than the famous Berlioz Requiem.
