REVIEW AND YOU TUBE VIDEO WAGNER DIE WALKURE BBC PROMS ANTONIO PAPPANO PLACIIDO DOMINGO CONCERT PERFORMANCE

A great performance of the Wagner`s first opera of the ring circle, ( Das Rheingold is only a preliminary evening) as concerns the orchestral execution of the work. Antonio Pappano is in a good way of his Wagnr approach. The orchestra seems to be balanced, only a few points are exaggerated .A very pleasant surprise with Domingo as Siegmund.. The storm with the violins tremoli is well presented and balanced, the tempi are correct and precise. The tympani are exaggerated sounding rather very loud, but it could be the fact that this is a live performance and as usually the audio engineers haven`t done their homework.

The wind instruments are a bit skeptical at the moment of truth, looking at the music in front of them .This is not the Berlin Philharmonic so this is a very surprising good concert performance leaving little room for criticism as concerns the orchestral handling. Alas though., maestri (AS KARAJAN DID) tend to forget that Wagner is singing first.
