OREST (DIETRICH FISCER DISCAU) APPEARS TO HIS SISTER ELECTRA
Dr. Karl Bohm was a personal disciple of Strauss. He gives the colorful score its thunderous due at all the right moments but there is also a tremendous array of subtle nuances from the orchestra where Dr. Bohm illuminates the sensuality, the psychotic edginess and religious fervor of the main characters. And he is not afraid to be vulgar. It's a decadent, sensational opera and Bohm knows just what to do at every moment.
