DAVE GRUSIN NIGHT LINES Night-Lines, studio album in two years, represents a radical departure from his previous work. All the music on this CD effectively the creation of a single individual. Programmable drum machines, digital synthesizers and sequencers have opened new modes of composition and performance to musicians, and Dave Grusin had used them all to great advantage on this masterfully crafted recording. Night-Lines was a lengthy, complicated recording project. This album began as a basic rhythmic pattern programmed into the memory of a Linn Drum Machine. After the drums were put down on the 3M digital multitrack, basic parts were layered on, and then, usually, a synthesized bass line. Dave constantly refined all parts as teh recording proressed.
