MAURICE JARRE

Maurice Jarre (September 13, 1924 – March 29, 2009) was a French composer and conductor. Although he composed several concert works, he is best known for his film scores for motion pictures, particularly those of David Lean: Lawrence of Arabia (1962), Doctor Zhivago (1965), and A Passage to India (1984). All three of these scores won Academy Awards.

French president Nicolas Sarkozy has paid tribute to Oscar-winning film composer Maurice Jarre, who has died in Los Angeles at the age of 84.

Mr Sarkozy called French-born Jarre, whose credits include Lawrence of Arabia, "a great composer" who produced "majestic and full-bodied works".

Jarre also won Academy Awards for Dr Zhivago and A Passage To India.

His last public appearance was in February at the Berlin Film Festival, where he won a lifetime award.

MONTEREY FESTIVAL 1967 OTIS REDDING

KING OF SOUL UNREPEATABLE ACT THE ETERNAL UNBEATABLE MR.OTIS REDDING

Monterey was the first time that soul star Otis Redding performed in front of a large and predominantly white audience in his home country. Redding, backed in his performance by Booker T. & The MG's, was included on the bill through the efforts of promoter Jerry Wexler, who saw the festival as an opportunity to advance Redding's career.[4] Redding's show included his single "Respect" (which was later recorded by Aretha Franklin). Although the festival finally gave Redding mainstream attention, it would be one of his last major performances. He died 6 months later in a plane crash at the age of 26.

THE GUESS WHO --NO TIME

The roots of the Guess Who can be traced back to the late 1950s, when singer, Allan Kowbell led the group as "The Silvertones". The band played local gigs in and around the Winnipeg area and after a series of personnel changes, the band consisted of Kowbell, guitarist Randy Bachman, drummer Garry Peterson, bassist Jim Kale and keyboard player Bob Ashley. In December, 1964, lacking the funds to return to Minneapolis, the group entered the TV studios of CJAY-TV and recorded "Till We Kissed" for the 'A' side and a song that had been a part of their act for many years called "Shakin' All Over". The recording was credited to the band's new name, "Chad Allan and The Expressions".

GEORGES BIZET CARMEN-KARAJAN BALTSA CARRERAS

Digital recording. If you are interested on the orchestral richness of this opera(AS KARAJAN WAS) buy this set of cd`s.What you will hear is rich balanced sound, two fantastic performers of Don Jose and Carmen and ....a test for your audio equipment.Be aware this performance is controversial. As regards the reading of Karajan, the Torreadors entry puts the Gotterdamerung sound levels and output to shame. The overture in ACT 1 SOUNDS like te Ride of the Valkyries. Toscanini objected Karajan`s reading of Carmen but the maestro continued to conduct and record still after the criticism he accepted from his techer.

TANIA TSANAKLIDOU

BRUCKNER- KARAJAN DREAM DVD UNITEL---BRUCNER THE COMPLETE SYMPHONIES KARAJAN COLLECTION

Watching this performance(BRUCNER SYMPHONY NO 9) i could clearly see that Bruckner`s music was something special for Karajan.Though he declared that the orchestra should not get any sort of reaction from the maestro`s face(according to Toscanini as well),one can seee and guess that there was something ...there.Was it the fact that both were AUSTRIAN?I doubt it.Was it this mysterious story or rumour tha Karajan at a very young age was locked all night together with the coffin of DEAD BRUCKNER?Karajan denied this but still said ,he was about to conduct one of Bruckner`s works and he had to be in the climate.......... This is a powerfull performance of the 8&9&TE DEUM.Filmed by Unitel in the Wiener Philharmonie Hall it is a perfect Document of the powerfull Austrian Maestro at the right age.Not young neither old.

ELEKTRA STRAUSS MOST WILD OPERA

OREST (DIETRICH FISCER DISCAU) APPEARS TO HIS SISTER ELECTRA Dr. Karl Bohm was a personal disciple of Strauss. He gives the colorful score its thunderous due at all the right moments but there is also a tremendous array of subtle nuances from the orchestra where Dr. Bohm illuminates the sensuality, the psychotic edginess and religious fervor of the main characters. And he is not afraid to be vulgar. It's a decadent, sensational opera and Bohm knows just what to do at every moment.

ELEKTRA RICHARD STRAUSS KARL BOHM LEONIE RYSANEK

ELEKTRA FALLS DEAD AFTER THE DANCE MACABRE OPERA IN ONE ACT AFTER THE GREEK TRAGEDY ILEKTRA BY EVRIPIDIS AND SOFOKLIS.

Actors: Leonie Rysanek, Astrid Varnay, Catarina Ligendza, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, Hans Beirer

The plot of Elektra is based upon the great Greek tragedy of the same name by the tragedian Sophocles. The unrelenting gloom and horror that permeate the original play produce, in the hands of Hofmannsthal and Strauss, a drama whose sole theme is revenge. Klytaemnestra (Clytemnestra), helped by her paramour Aegisth (Aegisthus), has secured the murder of her husband, Agamemnon, and now is afraid that her guilt will be discovered by her children, Elektra (Electra), Chrysothemis, and their banished brother Orest (Orestes). Elektra, who is the personification of the passionate lust for vengeance, tries to persuade her timid sister to kill Klytaemnestra and Aegisth. Before the plan is carried out, Orest, who had been reported as dead, arrives and, upon being told the truth by Elektra, determines upon revenge for his father's death. He kills Klytaemnestra and Aegisth; Elektra, in an ecstatic dance of triumph, falls dead in front of her horror-stricken attendants.
